Clough let himself down badly when he blamed the Hillsborough disaster on Liverpool fans. He blamed the punters, when it was clear the blame lied squarely at the feet of the police and the FA.
A dreadful mistake on behalf of Clough, and he knew it.
Great man, terrific character...soiled by comments which tried to take the blame away from those truly responsible for taking a hundred or so lives on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the football.
I can't wait to see the film. I love the book "The Damned United", although I realise that it is faction and not entirely true. The books focuses on Cloughs 44 days as leeds utd manager. His first game in charge was in the 1974 Charity Shield match between Leeds and Liverpool. Both Billy Bremner and Kevin Keegan were sent off in this match. It is one of the first games I ever remember. The guy who plays Billy Bremner in the film is the hard skinhead from "This is England".
