'Sexting' Hysteria 15 Years ago
maybe a cleverer thinker can explain this conundrum. The common excuse parroted by police and prosecutors with child porn (and there are great discrepencies on what constitutes "child porn"..pics of teen girls in their bras have been described as child porn)..is that it is a photograph of a crime..and viewing that photograph is perpetuating the crime (although oddly the rule doesn't apply elsewhere..say looking at photographs of murdered dead bodies).

Yet the police, prosecutors..probably a judge and in some case a jury will view the same pics. They are commiting the crime as well ! (unlike in any other court cases where they only view evidence). Or is the "crime" temporarily suspended?

Please explain ?

'Sexting' Hysteria Falsely Brands Educator as Child Pornographer

It was an incident that began innocently enough, but nearly ruined the life and three-decade career of a veteran high school teacher and administrator.

Rumors had been flying at Freedom High School in South Riding, Virginia that students were distributing nude pictures of each other on their cell phones. It's a phenomenon, known as "sexting," that's become increasingly worrisome to educators across the country, and Ting-Yi Oei, a 60-year-old assistant principal at the school, was tasked with checking it out.

The investigation was inconclusive, but led to a stunning aftermath: Oei himself was charged with possession of child pornography and related crimes -- charges that threatened to brand him a sex offender and land him in prison for up to seven years.

Seems that almost anything can be classed as a sex crime these days. I was surprised back when Thomas Hamilton murdered 16 children and their teacher up at Dunblane in Scotland. The media were falling over themselves in attempts to prove he was a paedophile, and the police brought in an expert on sex crimes.

He murdered 16 children and their teacher! What worse can be said of him? Would his being a paedophile explain the actions? Paedophiles want to have sex with children; they don't just go and shoot them. The real explanation seemed to connect with his having been slandered by some of the adults in the town, and him being driven over the edge as a consequence. He hit back at the town in the way he thought would hurt them most. He was really targeting the adults by depriving them of that which they held most dear.

That's my psychology training kicking in. I was never a fan of Freud and so I don't believe that every thought or action has a sexual motive.

But reaction to that incident did demonstrate how obsessed the media and the system were becoming with sex. Now, everything is sexual, especially if it involves children. Serious questions have to be asked about the mentality of those in power over the past 20 years. It is very worrying.

and take it to a logical conclusion.

If you were a paedophile which job would you be most attracted to ?

Yes - Child abuse team at your local Police Station. Qualifications needed - none. Criminal records allowed.

Looking at millions of abuse images each year ( as part of you job )

That is sadly what is happening I believe.

If schools cant stop SEXTING which seems to be getting out of control everywhere in all parts of society from rich kids to chavs - then what is to be done ?

If these images end up anywhere near an adult ( parents would qualify ) then they would be charged by our officious Police. This means if you are a Parent and your child is taking part in this and their friends are texting over innapropriate pictures of themselves and YOU intervene and confiscate the phone you then become a SEX OFFENDER instantly in the eyes of the law.

We have built a crazy society which criminalises those who seek to prevent abuse - and does nothing to those who actually carry it out.
