Just seen the trailer for this. It looks truly awful. Read David Nobbs wonderful books instead. What next, a new series of Steptoe, a remake of Fawlty Towers with Graham Norton as Basil? I shudder to think what they are going to crucify next.

When it's shown, I'll dig out my old VHS of the original series. A classic!

But I suppose for those too young to remember the original, it might work.

Am I judging too early? Maybe. But I really don't see the point in remaking a TV classic when the original was so perfect.

There was one and only Leonard Rossiter Reggie Perrin was a sit-com that nearly all of us can relate to and we know about the seedy land lord he betrayed in Rising Damp.

I heard that BBC might remake several old comedies like what Paul Merton did with Galdon and Simpson which were sad to watch.

If they remake Fawlty Towers they will clamp down on the P/C and AYBS will suffer just as much.

Rossiter wil always be Perrin to me, but hang on. What is wrong with another adaptation? It happens in the theatre and movies all the time. Lets not be quick to judge. Haven't you learned anything from this website???

There is no problem with reusing a character to base a series (they have done it with James Bond for 50 years) However,if it's just a warmed over version of the old Reggie Perrin, then it will be disappointing - no imagination and certainly no memory. They got together all the old actors (most were still alive then)and did a series in the 90's based upon the reading of Perrin's last will and testament - it was a bitter disappointment once you got past the initial curiosity as to what the actor playing CJ looked like in his 80's.
