TOPIC: Tesco - fantastic

Tesco - fantastic 15 Years ago
Like it or not (and most of us don't)... well done to the UK's biggest retailer and they are doing a fabulous job.

Recession? What recession?

People in need of cheaper stuff go there despite the atmosphere.

I have to say I admire the expansion in America (though there are memories of M&S years ago).

About time we saw British success.

I use Tescos a lot myself.A small local mini one,and a bigger superstore 3 miles away.
In the same complex we have Asda & Sainsburys.Tescos is my regular choice for a food shop.Although when it comes to that little something special Rackhams,M&S or Waitrose can provide that little something extra that Tesco fails to provide.

It's not just me who senses the horrid atmosphere in Tesco's then!! I was starting to think I was weird!

..and how dull is Sir Terry Leahy? Groceries tend not to bring forth great characters I find...with Thatcher the exception.

I don't think there is a horrid atmosphere in Tesco's maybe you have an aversion to working class people. why pay more in waitrose and m & s when most of the products are essentially the same, with cheaper packaging.

Their food is tastless most of the time - but their prices on Electrical Goods and Stationary are the best of any in the UK. No wonder they are crushing all the other shops.

Not sure whether we want a future with Town Centres full of Charity Shops and Restaurants - and then a one stop shopping centre on the edge of town called Tescos etc. but that is where we are heading with the current situation.

The Tories stopped the plans for Tesocs - but New Labour took so much money off the supermarkets they basically scrapped the planning laws which has led to this situation which can never be reversed unless a future Government taxes the CO2 levy on out of town stores ( which is a good idea ) which could add to their costs and slow down their expansion because they would need to charge for car parking at the stores which would add a 5% charge to shoppers who did not come by bus.

Fair play to Tesco's but the idea of goinng fills me with dread. Narrow aisles, flat screens pushing the latest deals, staff who just get in the way, car parks that are a nightmare to get in and out of and for some reason pedestrians who disengage brains and wander aimlessly onto oncoming traffic. I'm no snob but the patrons are weirdo's. Sainsbury's all the way! Rant over.
