"Mr King; I never liked your music and felt you were smug and arrogant but recently my husband was falsely accused of molesting two pupils at his school 30 years ago.
We're now in our 70s; happily (until then) retired.
He was remanded in custody. Our world fell in. Awful response from neighbours. Friends deserted us. We contemplated suicide. Shortly before it was due to come to court the police discovered one of the men (in their 50s) had never been to the school. He broke down and admitted they had made the whole thing up.
They will probably get a slap on the wrist and a small fine for wasting police time.
Our lives were ruined. But another teacher sent us a DVD of your movie - he'd heard about it through FACT. We watched it last week. It transformed our lives. You went through far worse and emerged smiling, laughing and singing.
I cannot tell you the effect it had on us. Suddenly we were able to shrug our shoulders and be happy again.
Many many thanks.
PS - you know the extraordinary thing? My husband remembered his former pupil as a very nice, quiet, normal, decent boy".
It shows how it is impossible to remember things properly from the past. Our minds put "spin" on things and can even create things that did not happen - and it seems the older you get the more this can happen.
It is fantastic that these two people can now look forward to the rest of their lives without fear and with a smile on their faces.
There are still some people who view me as a 'monster' on the back of three alcohol fuelled hand written notes. Laughable. So lord knows what people must go through who are accused of sexually molesting children.
But at least one discovers whose one friend's are in such times. It's a bit like a sieve...false friends disappear down the plughole... where they always belonged... you are left with the very best people around you.
