I have huge respect for the Major who just finished his 2 week London marathon. What a guy!

I can admire his courage and spirit without approving of his chosen career as a child killer.

I have had many good friends and lovely people who have joined the forces. For many of them it is a desire to protect and serve that motivates them.

The problems seem to happen when our Government uses them as paid assassins for their own agendas.

I admire what this particular man has done. I believe there will be a Concert at KOKO for this "heroes" appeal as well this summer and other events.

Well put BR.
Since 2001 our military has gone crazy. Most joined up expecting to see a bit of the world, learn a trade, and no doubt get drunk and fornicate.
Putting weapons in the hands of these types has of course lead to some pretty evil situations.

I think both JK & BR hit the spot on the armed forces.

No-one joining can be in any doubt they are being trained to kill. With past history , no-one joining should really be in any doubt that can become so-called "hired assasins" or foils for politicians intent on an unjust battle for dodgy political reasons.

I should think the majority join for the security and hope they will never see battle, and learn a trade at the same time.

Interestingly, the USA Army Command did exstensive psychological studies after WW2 to better understand the staffing of a future army.

They found people fall into a few basic groups in the forces during a war.

80% were made of 2 varying groups..those with a steely determination to do the job and not be bothered after..those who did their duty and suffered terribly after.

Those who suffered were the ones once called suffering from "shell shock" now, post traumatic stress.

The other 20% comprised killers with no conciense or a good number of psychopaths who enjoyed killing , murder and mayhem and revelled in the legallity a war afforded them to kill. These were the ones who kill civilians without a second thought and often kill their own comrades.

It's hoped in a future army the nutters would be weeded out.

Of course politicians like Blair who start an unnessary and devestating war are straight out war criminals who should be brought to justice.

That shows you know knowing whatsoever about the armed forces in the UK. My partner is an ex marine and they were taught at all times to protect children and to keep casualties to a bare minimum

This bloke with no legs is not an exception, He is the norm and the courage these guys show far surpasses the ridiculus, uneducated bile spouted by a certain individual(s) who has(have) no knowledge or experience of what soldiers have to go through, what their training consists of and daily threats from hostile people of all ages.

Some of the posters on here should work for the Daily Mail with their fabricated opinions and confusion with reality and their warped minds !
