I must admit I haven't seen it, but I did enjoy Martin's British Islands series.

It will be interesting to see how they develop the storys - glad they haven't followed the fake suicide storyline so far. They may do a variation of the shop selling rubbish or the therapy centre. Fortunatley there isn't much scope for the incest storyline between daughter and uncle which was a bit out of place on the old series.

There was a rhythm to the old series which this one is seriously lacking (sadly I've given up on it despite liking Martin Clunes).

It has improved in my view as it has established the storyline and characters.

I see it as a new person in 2009 called Reggie Perin - not an update of the orginal story.

If you look at it that way then it becomes one of the best comedies in recent years on TV.

In another 20 years a new Reggie Perin could be created........it is a timeless story about humdrum living and how silly our lives really are when we make important all the things that are meaningless and ignore the important things.

I think the current series has done that incredibly well - and anyone expecting some sort of 70s fest with Fawlty Towers overtones will have been disappointed.
