Hollie Steel - a victim of child abuse 14 Years, 11 Months ago

10 years old. 10 years old for christ sakes!!! How can anyone justify putting a little kid like that under pressure. Where are the NSPCC??
And if you really want to be nauseated, just take a look at the comments underneath the YouTube videos showing it. Lots of charming people calling her a spoilt little brat and accusing her of faking it.
And it is not her 'pushy parents' who are the child abusers, it is the 20 million people or so who watch a television show knowing that a pre-teen child is being subjected to such pressure for their cheap entertainment.
Remember, the government justifies locking up men for looking at pictures of topless 17 year old women because merely looking 'creates the demand'.

I find most comments sections on newspapers fairly illuminating. It's amazing how many utter vindicive and nasty folk are out there.
Perhaps it's a good type of therapy. Mind you..on the News of The World & The Sun you barely get any comments at all..which is fairly telling about the readership !

Only two things need to be done.
1. Ensure at the start that each child fully contestant understands they might not win. I'm certain most do anyway.
2. Warn judges like Amanda against gushing over every child act and telling them she'll make sure they'll make the final. Praise needs to be well balanced. I've never understood why she is a judge anyway.
But look at Charlie Green from last years BGT. Rejected at the semi final stage but currently doing tours around the world. This Hollie girl has been in the spotlight and will no doubt find many doors open to her. She's not the first kid to break down - but the fact is that kids handle this kind of pressure better than many adults. The important thing with Hollie is that she carried on, plus she now has a place on the tour which will help her build confidence and add to her experience of a lifetime.
You have to get things into perspective.
It's also important to know that this is the time in her life when she needs encouragement regarding her song and dance talents. Later will be too late, because without the early encouragement, and the nurturing of her talents, she'd likely see her chance gone forever. There are thousands each week competing for places in stage schools, etc. Many get rejected, without even the opportunity that Hollie has had. They cry because it's important to them, not because they can't handle the pressure. To suddenly cry child abuse is an insult to the child, and to those around her. It also takes away the focus from genuine cases of abuse, so is rather pathetic.
Let's encourage our young talent, not beat it down.

While we're at it, let's ban all those over 65, all those with disabilities, all those who are too fat or too thin, etc. Let's demand total purety so that only the most beautiful and ultra fit can take part.
How does that sound?
Oh, I almost forgot, let's also ban all conspiracy theorists from taking part.
Diversity got 24% to Susan Boyle's 20% (approx).
They built remarkable support over the duration of the contest, and Susan Boyle's initial impact was wearing off. She was, after all, just a singer, while Diversity broke new ground and showed genuine imagination and creativity.
