"How did we get to this?"
You genuinely feel the need to ask??
Television, the newspapers, film... the entire media pantheon... screams 24 hours a day, 7 days a week a constant stream of negativity. Film is dominated by the message that all problems are sorted out by the person, no matter how allegedly "moral" and "right" his motives might be, who can kill, shoot, punch, maim or kickbox in the most remorseless way. TV is little better, with a skilful blend of moralising, manipulation and humiliation. Games programmes, for years an outlet for genuine talent and entertainment or now mere sneer-fodder - an opportunity for the audience to share and admire the panel's sniping. No one wins these days, the "winner" being the person who manages to avoid being voted off or the words "you're fired". In this atmosphere of contempt - glowed over and sneeringly emulated by millions of parents across the land for whom shadenfrued is second nature - is it any wonder that our children are turning out to be just as bad as the examples set them encourage them to be? After all, what is there to aspire to? Shallow celebrity? Damn strange role models we have these days...

Blatant fearmongering - and blatantly untrue.

Trust me on both! I work in the education sector for a living.
