TOPIC: Gordon Brown goes within ten days
#45560
Gordon Brown goes within ten days 14 Years, 11 Months ago
So says my friend Simon Hoggart in The Guardian.

I think he's wrong. Brown will hang on by his fingertips to the last possible moment.

Can it get any worse?

Incidentally, I think Cameron would be just as bad.

I like Alan Johnson, William Hague and Vince Cable.

weird isn't it ?

Poor nerdish Hague seemed so strange at the time yet in retrospect seems to be a decent chap.

Alas,

To all my fellow purveyors of Políteuma

I was chatting to some of my colleagues in the House of Commons Lobby this lunch-time.

I'm saddened as to the air of desperation blowing past some of the bronze statues!

I'm interested to find out what qualities give you that impression.

I can certainly see Brown being forced out by his own party if labour come in behind UKIP at the Euros.

Brown will stay. The only alternative is a General Election because you cant have the PM job being shared around again without an election.

Cameron is better than Brown - he has more style - has more vision and has some policies that dont include the surveillance state. None of us can agree with every party's stance on everything - but at the moment Cameron is the lesser of three evils and Labour is seriously finished as a political force.

We need a new Government NOT just a new Leader of the labour party. Brown is only part of the problem - the rest of the party are awful snout in trough merchants. The Tory snouts on the back benches may have been in the trough as well - but to a far lesser extent because they are richer ?

Brown wont go. He will cling on to power til next May in the hope of a World War or a Flu Pandemic so he can call an emergency and scrap the elections forever like Hitler did. You have been warned. Hitler was in a corner with falling vote when he burnt the reichstag to the ground........an evil dictator is at their most dangerous when cornered.

Brown will be gone by this time next week. Labour will elect a new leader, to try to sort out the party problems before an election next May.

That's what I'm reading in my crysal balls today!

I think I may be wrong about this.

He looks very vulnerable but he is so thick ( skinned ) that he may well try to cling on to power and unless MPs resign their seats and force an election he can stay there. There is no mechanism for getting rid of him in the Labour Party.

The country has VOTED yesterday for him to CALL AN ELECTION. Total victory for the TORIES - with even the Lib Dem supporters voting conservative in order to try and force an election.

BROWN - simply the worst PM the UK has ever had. He was unelected. We must never have an unelected PM again. There must be an election within 3 months if the baton is passed. Our laws need to be changed.

LABOUR are in such a mess that they are in denial that they are over and wiped out as a political party in the UK. The people dislike their policies their attitude and their arrogance.

Totally agree.

Brown might as well set up his own Government of unelected friends and ignore the Labour Party and democracy.

We now have an unelected PM with an unelected cabinet running the UK !!

Totally weird times - and yet no one in the Labour party is prepared to say this is wrong ? This shows that none of them are worth of re-election. Anyone who votes Labour at the next election really misses the point. You may vote for them - but they will then go and bring in their friends who you have not voted for....so your vote will be a total waste.

dixie-I reckon your crystal balls are bang on !

The moment the odious James Purnell walked..the shining example of everything that is wrong and ghastly with Nu Labour-was the moment Gordon Brown should have started packing.

Like Maggie before him-he'll probably be bundled into a taxi in tears late next week.

Brilliant speech by Brown today on news channels - about his vision - he even cracked some jokes about resignations and Mandelson who was sitting there with him......

Perhaps the shock of getting so low means that he has nothing to lose now ........

In addition there is no obvious successor in Labour.

He may go but is still more likely to stay based on this performance.

Brown won't go until he is voted out in a general election. He is the most powerfull man in Britain, he's not going to give up that position of his own accord. We have heard all this "end of Brown" stuff many times before.
Remember the emails scam, the lost laptops, the 10p tax rate. All of this will be forgotten if the economy picks up, which is the main thing that we are concerned about.

Re:Gordon Brown goes within ten days 14 Years, 11 Months ago
but as Labour is bound to be thrashed in a year, that's when it becomes very dangerous for a losing PM.

Every MP who has ever entertained the possibility of being PM wants a last ditch chance at the job even if it's only for 6 months.

They have nothing to lose and after all, the chance won't come around again until at last 10 years.

Plots are hatched, promises made.

Maggie never thought she would get the chop until the tap came on the shoulder and the poor bewildered thing was sent home to Croydon and Dennis, clutching a little cardboard box with her belongings.

I still agree with JK - he wont go.

In fact - I believe he will change the voting system to give himself the best chance of holding onto power in the next election.

BROWN is the ultimate "power freak" he wont ever give up power. Notice how despite the worst Labour results for a century he gets a round of applause by the Labour MPs when he speaks to them.....why ? well the man is untouchable at the moment as long as Mandelson ( Bilderberg ) is on his side - which he is.

Browns's next step is to bring in a voting system or to declare a national emergency ( Swine flu -terror attack - etc ) in order to keep power. I have said this for 2 years and I still stand by it now.

Brown is going no-where - though on Friday any other PM would have been unseated by such bad polling etc
