Is it me or is it unusual for windows to catch fire ?

Anyone taking a flight in the next weeks ?

Sorry to have posted two plane threads but I think this one justifies its own discussion. Anyone care to suggest what might have happened ?

Well, I think an electrical connector for the heating system had gone wrong. There is a slight clue in the article. The fire started near a window, which is hardly the same as a window going on fire, which would indeed be quite mysterious.

QANTAS recently outsourced the maintenance of their aircraft to a South-East Asian company. Ryanair execute dangerous landings to increase their turnaround. Thousands of Boeing 737's flew for years with a faulty servo valve in the rudder, which accounted for at least five fatal crashes. 747's flew with a faulty central fuel tank which could, and on at least two occasions did, explode given certain conditions.

I am far from convinced that safety takes priority over profit in the world of air travel any more. No mystery or conspiracy but no less disturbing.
