The awful tale emerges; this is only me putting two and two together with VERY limited understanding of Italian but I did notice, last year, the early stages of Altzheimers and I think he forgot he had a cigarette lit in bed, went to sleep and whoosh, up went the bed, the apartment and Nino all in one.

Horrid way to go but at 85...
