That was why I supported Goran over Tim Henman; I thought he was a superb player and deserved to win.

Likewise I always supported Lendl who won Junior Wimbledon (like Laura) and who I interviewed on radio at WMCA when he was a teenager and rooted for throughout his career - the only Grand Slam he never won was Wimbledon.

Women? I adored Martina and thought she was a terrific player; I've seen nobody else, apart from the odd flash of magic from a Williams sister, to get me interested.

Men can play tennis. Most women are better at having babies.

So whilst I'll be supporting Andy Murray, if Federer plays better I hope he wins.

I don't know about women not been able to play tennis. I prefer the women's games. Although the speed and strength are slower, you get much longer rallies and 3 sets of tennis is usually enough for anyone. Also the game is as much about personalities as skill. Apart from Federer, Nadal, and Murray I wouldn't recognize any of the male players if I passed them on the street.
You probably won't get many women's games to match the excitement of last years final or Ivanesovic v Rafter, or Macenroe v Borg 1980, but these games are very rare. For the average game I feel the women's game is more entertaining, also they've got nicer legs.

Good points Robbie.

Talking of great games, anyone else remember Borg/Gerulaitis which I, at the time, felt was the best game ever?

The match I saw highlights of last night was more a grunting contest rather than a tennis match. Why do they do it nowadays - they never used to? Why don't the umpires tell them not to? It ruins the game.

Oh no, one of my favourite players is out, Jelena Dokic, now of Austrailia, previously of Serbia? Remember her obsessive father used to to stalk her wherever she went.

I remember a few grunters back in the 70s. It's always been around. There's one woman this year (forget her name) who is described as a waling banshee when she plays. Apparently she doesn't do it in practice so they are trying to encourage umpires to clamp down on it, if it's believed to be putting the opponant off.

Gorgeous day; sunshine in London; happy tourists ramming Queensway making it even nicer that Rome, Nice, Paris and Marrakech, where I've been last month. I'm sipping an enormous Pimms, laced with banana, cucumber, strawberries and raspberries (just missing the mint sprigs) about to watch Andy Murray win his first round.

yes..Jelena Dokic's dad got arrested at Wimbledon for causing havoc and was carted away still clutching his strawberries.

He's currently in a Croatian jail (where they are from originally) doing 6 months for threatening to kill the Australian ambassador.

Poor Jelena had gone back home but fled again to Oz to get away from her dad.
