the woman who cried rape 14 Years, 10 Months ago
On Sky3 last night. Their big mistake was to say that cases of false allegation were rare, and then to re-emphasise that this programme was about one of the rare cases. They said 130,000 rapes of women took place each year, but they didn't mention the grey areas. Among those 130,000 are cases where the man has not been convicted but where there is no evidence that the woman actually lied, although the not guilty verdict does kinda suggest that she did. They can't have it both ways. They probably didn't include those cases where a man had his conviction overturned on appeal, or the many cases where charges were dropped because the woman either withdrew them or it emerged that she had lied but it was considered 'not in the public interest' to prosecute her. Then there are the cases where the woman claims to have been drunk, or where she changed her mind part way through, etc. There are far fewer cases of genuine rape where a woman is grabbed and forced violently into having sex.

I noticed that in the police interview when asked an awkward question she hadn't prepared for she bought herself some thinking time by saying "It's difficult". This is quite a common phrase to fall back on when your story isn't true and you have to rethink a few details. Of course, it might also be used by people who really do find it difficult to talk about an ordeal, but it's more the way it is said. This was a re-enactment, so not easy to judge that part, but certainly it's a common ploy.

So, overall, it was an awful programme, quite misleading in places.

Good for you Emma old Bee - and I'm delighted that a woman has done this post (I assume you're female) because there's a terrible tendency for women to join the "it must be rape" brigade.

Let's be clear - it sometimes is, and it's a disgrace when it is.

I am SO moral about this - I regard it personally as immoral and tantamount to rape to tell someone you love them when you don't, in order to trick them into sex.

But I also believe the VAST MAJORITY of rape claims are simple misunderstandings and the line has been so blurred by the meejah (cause it's a good story).

Drink and drugs usually play a massive part (even just blunting the senses - it is a vague area, human attraction).

We do nobody any favours dramatising men as a species of lunatic rapists out of control.

But it is... A GOOD STORY!

it is appropriate for a woman to make the point and it's commonly said that the 'wimmins' movement is what has caused much of these problems.

But if anyone had cared to really note of the latter leaders of the feminist movement like Germaine Greer or Betty Freiden-they really despaired about this sort of thing happening.

More alarming is the constant calls for tougher laws because so few rape cases are proved. I would have thought-under present laws that means the law is working. Yet police, politicians seems to constantly take the view that a "not guilty" verdict is a failure in the system.

Yes, JK. Not all of us women are men haters. Some of do see through the hype and hysteria.

Been away for a bit,so not sure if this is the same case Sky refer to.
Still here a blatant false accuser got a year. The guy was lucky,he was off bail in two weeks, and as she's been done he is completely exonerated. However the accuser had a history of problems, and this proves the police/cps charge without even looking into the accuser's background first.

Women who cry rape should be jailed for life.
They are guilty of 2 crimes.

1. Ruining a man's life.
2. Condemning more women to suffer the real horror of rape without getting justice.

These women are evil, evil, evil.

Anyone who cries rape or abuse for malicious reasons are evil and the eye of the Lord watches you and you will suffer until you repent of your ways.

And please note; not only women are false accusers.

life is probably stretching it !

I reckon every time a accused is found 'not guilty' a thorough investigation should be done to discover whether the person should have ever been charged in the first place.

I agree: no-one would want a real rapist or abuser to get away with a crime. But when resources are tied up with false accusations real victims are likely to fall by the wayside.

Part of the problem is the compensation industry where accusers can be rewarded even if no guilt is found and everything is exacerbated by the media's relentless promotion of 'sex' crimes.

## I wonder if there is a time limit on compensation? I was nearly murdered in the street in London over 20 years ago by strangers. The police at the time said the charge would be GBH or possibly attempted murder.

The last thing on my mind was financial compensation.I believe that would be the same for genuine victims...and indeed later after much study found that it was a very common psychological trait-for victims to believe they were responsible for whatever happened to them.

Maybe I should just say it was attempted rape..maybe claim it was a priest who did it..sell my story at the same time.

Attacked by a pack of killer rapist priests or social workers! What's the phone number for the NoTW ?

BUT...some people who claim to have been raped are genuine. Blimey, people here are so one sided. Rape is really horrendous.

Barn; we make that point over and over again but the argument here is... not all claimed rapes are rape and indeed the vast majority veer from misunderstandings and drunken or drugged behaviour to malicious and greedy fraud.

And real rapists are escaping justice for that very reason. The waters get muddied by false allegations and media inflation.
