I never form opinions of someone based on what someone else has said about them. I judge by what I see and hear first hand. Michael Jackson's music speaks for itself. His charity work, much of it done without blazing publicity, shows him in a good light. The accusations against him didn't stand up to scrutiny, either in a court of law or in the media. Lots of people huff and puff, but none can provide evidence other than to keep repeating that he looked odd and didn't conform. In the UK we used to be proud of our eccentrics because to some extent they reflected the freedom this country allowed. Now we have to attack that which we don't understand, or which doesnt fit into a nicely labelled box. I think it's all very sad.
The Bashir documentary was discredited once the edited footage was made public showing, for example, how the children at Neverland were accompanied by parents when Bashir had claimed they came alone and unprotected. It was the worst form of gutter journalism. This is certainly not the right time to broadcast it, when so many people are in mourning for their family member, friend and hero. ITV could at least pretend to have some respect.
