I have a great respect for age,or is it envy?
I tend to think back to lost loved ones,and then when you compare how much longer you could have had with them had they lived to a similar age.
The family of Henry were blessed,whole generations were allowed to get to know and love him,that under the average circumstances would not have been gifted the chance.
It's not so much the person we respect,as the incredible will to survive.

My Mum said "don't get old".

She really felt that 80 was the maximum age to reach pleasurably. After that it is physically (and often mentally) downhill.

At 64, I'm nervous.

My mother at 87 seems warn out,physically and mentally.Having my father in the first stages of dementia obviously doesn't help,nor does having a son facing sex charges.Doesn't stop her trying to do her duty though.
Like many of our parents generation they take it without complaining.Probally having survived the depression of the 30s,then the war years helps to toughen one up.
We may not wish upon ourselves the pains advance age may bring,but we certainly rejoice in the gift of longevity nature bestowed on our loved ones.
My mother has been a tower of strength during these bitter hard times,as I'm sure was your mother JK.

I'm a bit ambivalent about the idea of joining armies and to hark back to embarrassing era of beads etc..Donavon's song "Universal Soldier " was pretty spot on.

I'm pleased for you that your mother supports you. The bond between a mother and child is a strong as one can get.

I read a fascinating piece by a scientist who had a theory about molecules and such and the physical connection between mothers and children that never goes away.

My mum was like a tigress when her kids were threatened. I loved it as I have 2 brothers..fairly stitched up types, and 1 deceased one who was a real villian and rogue who always had lots of money but never had a job.

But he was always an angel in his mum's eyes.!

Not sure if it's nature or nurture,but I was adopted,and never could feel close to any of my biological family.The one who did all the work is my adopted mother,and a finer person I've yet to meet.
