Superman IV 14 Years, 9 Months ago
I'd never seen Superman IV before. Was it supposed to be a spoof of itself? It was absolutely side-splittingly awful.

My favourite Superman movie is Superman Returns.

I've really enjoyed all the Superman films including 1V and Superman Returns.

I think Superman 1V was just when that genre of films including the Batman were becoming spoof like. I thought Gene Hackman was wonderful ( but isn't he always?) and I've always regarded Christopher Reeves as the most 'Superman' like persona.

In all the Superman films he played the role fairly cheek in tongue. (I know -it's tongue in cheek but I left it in to demonstrate my annoying dyslexia ..a friend has to sub-edit all my formal letters)

Superman 1V was filmed in Sydney and much of it in streets not too far from me. It's amazing how ordinary city streets were transformed into Metropolis and are totally unrecognisabe (except for a tower in the background).

Christopher Reeve also came to Sydney shortly before he died for a huge charity fundraiser. I'd seen him once in London in the street before his accident. He was a tall handsome chap who apparently was loved by the acting fraternity.

Seeing him a wheel chair was heart-breaking yet his spirt was so strong. He smiled and greeted all...every stranger who approached him.

At one stage he was in a room to do interviews and photo calls. We were all told we could go in 4 at a time and had 40-60 seconds to take pics or ask one question.

The reason-the poor man could not breathe without his fibulator. It had to be taken from his mouth in order to speak so basically, while he spoke he wasn't breathing !.

One hack insisted on asking a series of questions. Reeves wife Dana grabbed the man by the scruff of the neck and booted him out. It was delicious moment as he was a journalist I particularly disliked.

Here was an actor who right up to his dying day and no matter what discomfit it caused him, wanted to ensure stem cell research continued to aid others who came after him.

Christopher-strapped into his wheelchair, surrounded by apparatus and oxygen tanks to keep his heart pumping, his lungs breathing, totally immovable, with only his eyes and mouth to express himself shined with a light I've rarely seen on another. In real life, he was a superman.

It was tragic when Dana Reeves also passed away from breast cancer. Her devotion to her husband was legendary.
