There are 1000s of FREE news sites on the Web. So no one is going to pay for news from Murdoch. Even if Murdoch has scoops - often they are far from the truth - so why pay for fairy stories.

The Times may get some to pay - but the quality of its journalism is not distinguishable from the other quality newspapers who give their content free.

In addition the lower the "hits" the lower the advertising spend on these websites. Which means it would be self defeating to make them pay sites because advertisers would desert them.
