UK Army - in Afganistan to protect the POPPY CROP 14 Years, 8 Months ago
When will the UK government admit the real reason why our troops are in AFGANISTAN ? It cant be for any military reason. The TALIBAN are a Guerilla group and are small effective fighting force who CANT BE DEFEATED. They took on the SOVIET UNION for years - and never lost. Why should our small army stand any chance.

So why are the troops there ? well the POPPY TRADE in Afganistan and HEROIN is the drug of choice in the UK and is currently corrosively destroying the lives of many young people from rural towns to big cities.

Our Government has been shown to use Parliament as a slush fund for themselves. It is not such a big step to ask WHY the army is in Afganistan and if it is WHY the drugs trade has GONE UP rather than gone down.

Surely we could have destroyed the POPPY CROP with a few flights over the farming area that grows it. We could have stopped it at the borders ( supposedly we control them )

But the truth is the ARMY does not interfere at all in the POPPY TRADE - in fact it condones it.

The TALIBAN actually tried to stop it.

Young lives are being lost once again - our tax money is going literally for nothing. Young lives being given in Afganistan to protect the drug dealing cartels and their infliction of non lives on many thousands of young people in the UK.

Bring the troops home and end this pointless war Gordon. Please.

Another three young lives lost today. America may be forgiven for the folly of the invasion of Afghanistan. They don't have a history of having the shit kicked out of them by the locals that we do. We should have learned our lesson in the 19th century. Maybe we did. But it's a lesson we seem to have forgotten. History will judge the UK as a country too arrogant to bear the drip drip of corrosive guerilla attacks in mind when planning its military adventures. This was always an ill advised campaign orderd, it seems, by a government either unwilling to listen to the voices of history or too ignorant of the impossibility of military "success" in Afghanistan to understand what was always going to happen. How many more body bags will we have to see coming through Wootton Basset before we finally pull our heads out of our celebrity obsessed, hate filled arses, switch off our crappy soap operas and our crappy reality TV shows and say "Enough Is Enough"? Probably never. I suspect, sadly, that will we continue to obsessively grieve over some trashy, racist little trollop whose life we could do nothing to save while ignoring the fact that we could stop our servicemen and women dying immediately. We won't do it. Because whatever we say about what a caring society we are the reality is that we just couldn't give a fuck.
