I have an addiction to fast sports cars - will the government give me them free so I don't resort to crime to obtain them ?

Not a reward, but a return to a sensible policy of old.

This was tried in Liverpool a few years ago,was very successful in reducing crime, but was not continued because the government didn't want to look soft on crime.

Most drug users resort to crime, because government policy of making drugs illegal pushes up the cost of drugs many, many times.

You can't force an addict to give up,that will only come when the addict is mentally ready.Wasting god knows how many millions on locking up addicts, wasting police manpower, and the costs of the crime committed to obtain drugs is a huge travesty, and a very short sited policy.
Even today in Canterbury Crown I witnessed a guy get his second custodial sentence for drug running,10 years for importing 10 kilos of Coke. That makes 17 years in total taken from his life, and at our expense. Is that a great use of resources?

By cutting out the need to criminalize the addict we remove the need for the 'drug barons'.This also goes through the chain, down to the petty pusher on the street corner, often trying to encourage young people onto drugs,so he can sell them drugs.

If this treatment was applied to all addicts we could possibly save billions.
