Susan Boyle's "Wild Horses" 14 Years, 8 Months ago
don't get me wrong-I love the whole Susan Boyle story especially because she was most likely given a hard time before her fame over looks etc.
I hate ageism/racism /lookism/bodyism and all sorts of discrimination about the things nature gives a person over which they have no control and for which they often get knocked for.
But listening to her Wild Horses version what I hear is a very average version that would land on a record company's desk and if actually heard-be given the flick after a few bars (not that A&R men are re-nowned for their creative decisions)
She really is a triumph of publicity and the media madness and a true story of style over substance success.
That said-I hope she absolutely has the time of her life for the next few years.

And I personally have reservations about her interpretation of the melody - her "ses" at the end of "hor-ses" is a different melodic note to the written one and less interesting. But it's a clever choice of song though not my favourite Stones song.
I actually think SMT/SLT's version of Have You Seen Your Mother is more imaginative.

A very clever song to cover. I bet a lot of Susan Boyle's audiance aren't really aware of this song. I've often thought Stone's songs don't get covered enough. Perhaps it's because the originals are so good. My favourite Stones song is "She's Like A Rainbow".
The Rolling Stones started out on a great Record Company. Now who ran it (twice)? The name escapes me!!

What an awesome performance live in the USA last night.
This amazing women is easily the biggest star to come out of the UK since the Beatles.
She has the whole of the USA on her side already and all those in the UK who enjoy music.
She is already the best selling pre order on all sites 2 months before release. The album will sell in TENS of millions.
Yet in the "Bitter and Twisted" World of the UK where we take our lead from our dour Politicians there is a horrible undercurrent of people who cant appreciate what this incredible women has actually achieved and want to pour scorn on her.
A year ago Susan Boyle was a 47 year old single unemployed women with a cat and church for company - and who had lost her mother and had her dreams of being a singer "dashed" by her very average looks.
That says everything about our SUPERFICIAL UK society. We judge people by their looks alone in the UK. Without being good looking the "radar" does not pick us up. If you are fat - or average looking - the whole of the UK machine is against you. It is like HITLER's ARYAN dream of blond blue eyed people. No wonder abroad other countries whisper this to each other about how the UK is a deeply fascist place to live.
Susan Boyle from being this unknown person has broken through - the vote obviously was rigged against her in the final to vote through a bunch of dancers - but in the end the Public around the world will decide her fate.
If it was just a good story her album would not be selling - it is more than that - her performances are totally amazing - she has an emotion in her singing which must come from the life that she has led. You cant train that - you cant hype that - it is raw and it is real. A beautiful voice and a wonderful personality go along with the emotion. It is the full package for a singer.
Whilst those who think being COOL or SUPERFICIAL will slag her off and demean her ability - everyone must remember that to reach an audience and win them over like she does is a talent that has eluded many of our greatest UK stars who failed outside our shores. Susan Boyle is the REAL DEAL - the real talent - and she will conquer the english speaking world with her voice.
I am so proud that despite the bitter and twisted nature of our society in the UK - Susan Boyle has managed to come through.
Thank you to Simon Cowell and his team for this and for managing to see it through and to show that talent is really what is in our hearts and souls - not the packaged cool of recent years that is shallow and has no connection with anyone.
If every act was as good as Susan Boyle there would be no need for file sharing even to be discussed. The rubbish music that has come out of the music industry is the reason why no one wants to pay for most of it.

Having forced myself to listen to some of the recent Top 10 stuff, just to try and understand why, I don't think anyone can honestly say that Susan Boyle isn't at least as good as a lot of the major signings. I was pleasantly surprised at this track because I expected a powerful song which she could 'belt out'. This is quite subtle and shows another side to Susan. I hope she does well.
