BBC debate on "Consent" Age today 14 Years, 7 Months ago

Interesting.

I actually dont agree with sex outside marriage/long term relationship.

Yet even I can see the stupidity of our current laws which encourage people to BREAK THE LAW on a regular basis.

The laws are wrong at the moment - as I mentioned before our Government uses the current law to actually blur the whole issue.

At the moment the current law is being used as a method of criminalising some people but not others. There is no justice in that.

According to the law 50% of everyone UNDER 30 should be in prisonh for 15 months. That means the current law is either wrong or un-enforceable.

The law makers need to make a law that is 100% enforcable with the same sentence for EVERYONE who breaks it.

e.g Person ( male of female ) has sex with person under the age of consent and therefore gets jailed for 2 years. This means that judges enforce the SAME law. Much like we get the same BIG MAC from each Macdonalds. Soft judges let too many people go - harsh judges use show trials to give loads of years to celebs etc. If we continue to have blurry law in this area it will continue to attract false allegations. Finally - evidence must be provided for prosecutions - not just a story.

the laws in the Netherlands used to be the most sensible in Europe and judges could take into account a whole range of factors.

Someone below the age of consent with someone above-if they could show it was a genuine relationship there was usually no penalty..and so on. Which was odd for a country that is generally very conservative outside the big cities like Amsterdam and so.

BR-you dont agree with sex outside marriage/long term relationship ?. Fascinating.

I actually have taken alot of stick for those views - less so now but when young I realise I was in a minority with that view.

I have quite a romantic view of life. It has served me well.

If people followed that then we would have far less STDs around - including the more serious ones.

Am I happier because I believe that ? yes - I think I am in retrospect.

Do I believe in free will and freedom of others - yes - I would not enforce a belief as a law.

I dont think the law is blurred - just that everyone has their own slant on it. The police would not bother prosecuting a lad of 17 with a 15 years old girl ... but would prosecute vigorously if it were a same-sex relationship.
