Just bought half a dozen slices of my favourite Iberia ham in Harrods; an Indian lady standing next to me said "that looks delicious" so the man cutting it gave her a little sample. She was astonished by how fantastic it was and readied herself to buy some.
However she was even more astonished when she saw my bill. £40 for 6 slices.
Actually BR, having eaten two of the slices for lunch and realised it was twice as much (with potato salad) as any gourmet could manage, six slices would feed anybody for a week!
Harrods is such a delight for me; about 20 different people came up to me, smiled, shook my hand and said hello.
It dawned on me that trivial events of the past few years are but a drop in the bucket for memories of somebody who has been a minor celebrity all the lives of most Brits.
I lived by shopping in the Harrod's Food Hall for 18 months before there was a slight mis-understanding about my Harrod's card which I was relieved of by a store attendant:dry:
It is truly wonderful..I always go back for a visit for nostalgic reasons. Never for ham though.
