CUT THE PAY of POLICE by 50% 14 Years, 7 Months ago
The POLICE are overpaid - they spend most of their time in offices or in cars. They have NO qualifications at all - yet they are paid more than teachers and nurses who are often trained to degree standard.

It is time this "Luxury" of excessive POLICE PAY ( Some constables earn £100K + including overtime ) is stopped.

If others in other businesses have to take pay cuts - then it is right that the PUBLIC SECTOR has pay cuts. This is one area where there will be no anger.

The POLICE service is oversubscribed in any case. Because there are no entry requirements it attracts large numbers of people. Therefore PAY is not an issue.

I believe the pay of PCSOs should be applied to ALL Police below Inspector level. Overtime should be paid pro rata.

This alone could save the UK BILLIONS over the next 10 years.

This is a far better way to save money than cutting EDUCATION or the NHS. Both of these need to be maintained - in fact in the case of the NHS more money will be needed because the population is ageing.

We need to start this debate and let our MPs know where we want to see the cuts fall.

Good Luck with this campaign - but I fear you are on a loser. Gov's need a powerful police force to impose their will - thats why the police get away with murder (Menezies) and law-breaking (still retaining DNA even though Euro Court says it is unlawful).

What was the VERY FIRST thing Maggie did when she got it? Gave the police a very big pay rise !!!

I think the success will come - everyone else is being told to CUT or FREEZE their wages. Yet the POLICE are earning up to £100,000 at their lowest level. This cant be right. It is a scandal.

How can ANY PARTY expect the rest of us to live under "AUSTERITY" when the POLICE are basically "Coining" it in - whilst not even delivering a decent service these days.

It is time for a NATIONAL PUBLIC SECTOR PAY SCALE for all teachers - firemen - nurses - doctors - local council officials. It should be based on responsibility and qualifications. Not "hours"

It's also untrue

My partner brings home just over 30k a year for his work which includes weekends and bank holidays and unsociable hours. He doesn't spend any time sitting in a car doing nothing, has to write up all his own paperwork, Witnesses dead and injured people on a regular basis and faces hostility on a daily basis from people who think it's perfectly normal to steal from others, use violence against others and cause others general misery. Perhaps you can tell me which low level officer earns up to 100k per year ?

Do you make this up ? You have to have a good standard of education with passes, clear several credit checks, be physically fit and healthy and then pass a week long course most people would fail and most do. THEN you go through several courses in your juvenile period just to get through the first year.

So you would give Sharon Shoesmith a much higher salary than the one she already got due to her qualifications and responsibility?.... more than a Fireman working 50 hours per week ?
