We spout on about how we want to spread 'democracy' to other countries, smuggly assuming we are always morally superior, and yet we collude in such practices (alledgedly).

To (try) and answer your question, david, I suggest that the general public can easily see through all this crap - and are never fooled by it.
Take a look at The Taliban ... obviously receiving massive public support (otherwise they could not operate) and the more we sink in our standards the more support is driven towards them (and others).

I'm surprised that no one has posted re the High Court decision that FULL details of the perverted treatment of Binyam Mohammed CAN be published.
The Yanks claim this will give away "intelligence" - but the Judges who HAVE seen the relevant 26 lines of material claim there is no intelligence material there whatsoever - it's merely a detailed listing of the torture and abuse that they have given (or sub-contracted) to this innocent man over the last 7 years.
