TOPIC: Hi All

Hi All 14 Years, 6 Months ago
Hi all again, I've been away from my Mac for the best part of two months due to, well being in a psychiatric ward for that time due to a breakdown and severe depression. I'm starting the road to recovery though, thankfully, and thankful I've got a home, wife and family to go home too - many people here are just thrown out of the system when they think they have finished with the service. I have a week to go here but managed to smuggle in my iBook and 3g dongle.

Did anyone listen to John Tusa's review of 1989 on Radio 4 during the weekend? An quick interview with JK (probably from the time) about Pop Music and Kylie and Jason was featured - it might still be available on the BBC iPlayer.

Thank you, it's been an 'interesting' time for rediscovery and for knowing which people will stand by you no matter what.

welcome back, Steve

Looks like you've been through some tough times of late, but it seems you're coming out the other side now. Well done!

Yes I heard the JK clip on John Tusa's 1989 prog - it was indeed a clip from the time.

welcome back..how was the ward ?

I had to visit a friend in one in Kensington a few years ago and overall I found the staff very helpful and friendly.

I'm hooked on my ibook-love it !

The ward is quite calm really and the staff are well trained and excellent. They really can spot difficulties with patients at a second glance, indeed I was shocked at the number of times they had noted when I was 'down' which were recounted back to me at a weekly meeting that I have with the staff and Psychiatrist.

I am having a meeting at 3pm today to discuss discharge, which should hopefully be by the end of the month.

And yes, I love the iBook too, prefer them to the Macbooks as the keyboards are more 'normal'.

Always heartening to hear of somebody going through the mill and coming back out of the other side, stronger and wiser. Too often people either just crumble or lose their personality through medication.
In 2 short weeks this month I've heard of 3 (unconnected) friends/associates who took their own lives after wrestling with depression and troubles, and 2 of those were borderline genius - perhaps too advanced for this society. It is sickening to see the heartbreak and sorrow they left behind, all the more so with myself feeling that way too. Too often people are quick to classify and condemn depression, mental illness and suicide but it's a cruel world we live in as I know only too well. I have a massive problem that I should not have, but most people will not even understand let alone help.
