ATL : 1 in 4 teachers are subject to false allegations 14 Years, 7 Months ago
Just been covered on BBC NEWS 24. ATL teachers union have disclosed 1 in 4 teachers have had a false allegation made against them. In addition 55 of 67 allegations about teachers which end up with the police are dropped. This means less than 20% of allegations are deemed worthy of a follow up. They did not say how many of those 12 ended in a successful prosecution but supposedly it is a 10% success rate according to general figures.

This means 1 allegation in 67 ends up with a successful prosecution.

Tens of thousands of teachers have been needlessly put through the stress of FALSE allegations - no wonder our schools are such a mess.

In a Secondary School with a staff of 80 - this would mean 20 of them would be at some time under a false allegation. This cant be good for morale and must make teaching almost impossible.

The FALSE ALLEGATIONS business ( so loved by Lawyers and Justice System ) is a MONEY MAKING scam as well as a FEAR idea by the Government. But it has gone too far as these statistics show.

JK warned against this many years ago - and many did not believe him. He has been proved TOTALLY right by these new figures.

There has to be a change in the whole thing : without any hard evidence NO ALLEGATION should be investigated. It is crazy that anyone can just "make an allegation" and then the career of that person is hit so hard - they dont have to provide one piece of hard evidence for it to be investigated. This is why I would say to anyone : DONT TEACH until they change the rules to protect the teachers. The STATISTICS prove that it is TEACHERS who need protecting in this situation. 1 in 67 allegations being true is absolutely appalling.

New Labour have created a LYING society where WEAPONS OF MASS ABUSE are the currency of the badly behaved and score settling kids of the UK - taught to them by our soon to be PRESIDENTE BLAIR.

PS If you saw ARMSTRONG and MILLERS sketch on Friday about the "Airmen" you will know exactly what I mean - it was pure brilliance.

One in four teachers who were surveyed reported this. As we know, from the often misleading advertisments which use this selective technique, this is a far from efficient way of gaining a truly representative sample. While I agree that this is a huge problem it's better to report what has actually happened rather than make a good headline. We decry the media for doing this, we shouldn't engage in it ourselves. I just thought I should mention it.

I know alot of teachers and they say it is worse than this. It is now accepted as a career problem.

I spoke to a head who told me ( London secondary school 0 that he can deal with 30 FALSE ALLEGATIONS in a week !!!!!!!! ( Staff around 100 ) 28 will be dismissed right away I might add....2 looked into....but all the same it is rampant in schools.

I do suggest you go and talk to some senior teachers you know Locked Out. I know many because several of my family are teachers or were teachers - most have left because of the PC purge by New Labour in the last 12 years.

"NB Locked Out - i posted this thread before IA posted on a similar subject based on watching the news at 11a.m this morning on NEWS 24."

Before you get snarky with me I'd like to point out that although you may have posted this thread up after watching the news at 11 o'clock IA's thread is timed at 10:21. Yours is timed at 12:55. Even given that you may well have posted before IA's thread was up, there's no way you can say "i posted this thread before IA posted on a similar subject" with any kind of credibility. IA's posting has timed fully 39 minutes before you even picked up on the story. You didn't post yours before IA posted his, so why claim you did?
