He was in the opening and closing scenes of each episode of Boy Dominic in the 70s, until taking more of a leading role in the final two.

He was in the movie The Longest Day, playing an officer he actually fought alongside in the same battle in real life. He was also Ian Fleming's first choice for James Bond but was busy with other projects so couldn't take up the offer.

His last screen performance was in an episode of ITV's Heartbeat. His character died in that episode, so in a way that was where he took his final bow as a screen actor.

RIP Richard. You'll be fondly remembered.

met him once at a fair-he was a great Art Deco fancier. Tiny little man-like a jockey.

One of my favourite actors of the 50s - suffered great tragedies in his personal life... whatever happened to Anthony Steel (another heart throb of the era)? Saw Jeremy Kemp today as we had breakfast!

Answer to Steel question above (Google is our friend)....
