This obsession the meejah and government have with sexual crime.
Where will it end?

Sorry, we seem to have a double post here but I have to say I firmly believe there's a global conspiracy to desexualise humanity; after all, there are so many easier and more efficient ways to create babies and women have never enjoyed sex much. We are close to all sex being banned and artificial insemination taking over. Which will make life difficult for gays and other "deviants".

I have no idea what these kids actually did but let's face it..a 10 year old boy couldn't really do too much. 'Rape' of course means anything these days.

This is most likely-unless further info comes forward-a classic 'doctors and nurses' game common with kids (well it was in my day and when I think back-there was no sexual element despite some body exploring)

Do we really as a society want to subject children this young to the courts ?

and as for the little girl running home to complain-which she has every right to do-but how much was she influenced by her parents in doing so....and wouldn't the logical way to deal with this is the parents of the girl to have a quiet word with the boy's parents ?

Whatever went on between these young boys and this girl, I'm sure that it involved the girl been undressed and been overpowered in some way.

This is obviously extreme bullying and could possbibly lead to psychological problems for the girl in the future and a lack of confidence. This crime should not be taken likely on this page and viewed as innocent fun and games.

It's quite likely something happened, but the main question is whether it was serious enough to be classed as rape. My 13 year old cousin accused a 12 year old boy of raping her. Everyone believed her, but when I sat and talked to her I found out that they'd been with a group of friends but then decided to go off together and "make out". She regretted going as far as they did and so she told her parents he'd raped her. Technically, as they are both under age, he did, but the sex was mutual and not forced and so in practice it wasn't.

She also told me that accusing the boy of rape was an easy way of making sure he didn't bother her again as she'd fallen out with him. She didn't even consider that there might be wider consequences. If a 13 year old can be like this, then so can an 8 year old.

Of course the two incidents might be entirely different and the 8 year old might have been raped, but I wonder if those doing the questioning have asked the right questions.

good point (the genuine I think) robbiex but as I say -'rape'means almost anything these days.

Possibly there was bullying which is odious but as we know extremely common.

But increasingly we are demanding kids have adult values, morals or viewpoints when their brains are nor sufficently developed enough.

Well Pete, this is a point I expected to bring greater denial - read more about my theories in the book. But I have to say I believe most women find sex a rather messy and often uncomfortable necessity in the quest for romance, love, marriage and children. Certainly there are many who enjoy it for itself but I suspect the majority of males like sex whereas the majority of women don't. I may, of course, be wrong.

Isn't it more that society is obsessed with sex crimes, fuelled by the media, and that this board isn't afraid to deal with and challenge one of the most serious and controversial subjects of the modern age?

Little girls being encouraged to cry rape as a default is not doing those little girls any good at all. Little boys being added to the sex offenders register, before they are old enough to properly understand what sex is, cannot be any good for them either.

It is important to challenge such issues.

Oh, there are lots of people who think I am far from sensible.

Not as concerned as I am.Being falsely accused of a sexual crime,just like JK.

If you don't like the fact that we are one of the few places that dares ask the questions other places fear then there are plenty of other place that will blindly tow the government/NGO line for you to feel more at home in.

When I was a ten years old boy in 1957, I doubt that I would have been able to rape anyone, let alone an eight years old girl, even if I'd known how it was done. I also doubt that ten years old boys have changed that much physically during the past 52 years. That may be a long time to most people, including myself, but in evolutionary terms, it's nothing. My considered opinion on the subject, have once been a ten year old myself, is that no matter what they did to her, they didn't rape her. At least, not in any sense of the word that I understand.

And Pete, maybe the reason you're so convinced about your macho prowess is that you're easier to fool than I am.

I wouldn't call it an 'obession' but crimes involving sex are certainly a much talked subject here as JK's experience lends itself to being an open board where the matter can be discussed freely-unlike many boards.

It's the media and particularly the tabloids who are certainly obsessed in their reporting style of sex crimes which would indicate they believe thier readers share that view.

It's also a very legitimate subject for debate..and most especially when children are involved. In the USA they are hauling 'Romeo and Juliet' cases through the courts in alarming numbers. Such as 'texting' which surveys show perhaps 25% of US kids are doing..making them potential life-long 'sex offenders".

A learned person (me) has dubbed it the 'Alfie Syndrome" after the sad 13 year old non-father of the year...society salivates over sex crimes..I mean really salivates as they demand every sordid detail while the press profits.

Here in Oz a case dominated the headlines for a week..I suggested to a journalist friend he dub it the 'McDonald's Masher' (his editor nixed the idea) as some allegedly mentally disturbed Spanish tourist visited 3 McDonalds takeaways and kissed 3 kids on the lips while their mothers weren't looking (all caught on CCTV).Their mothers should have been questioned for allowing their kids to eat that rubbish but that's beside the point.

Certainly a yukky thought as some garlic eating bloke planted his lips on 5 year olds but the media was in meltdown as though Jack the Ripper was on the loose.

Then the police tried to have a convicted pedophile (I mean a real one-kids not teens) who had served his 12 year stretch barred from swimming pools-shot down by a sensible magistrate who wasn't having it. Didn't stop the vigilante groups and tabloids frothing it fits of outrage.

Meanwhile in Perth a man who murdered a 13 year old girl in the most sordid horrific manner-too disturbing to repeat (but didn't rape her) walked free after serving his sentence with one tiny paragraph about his rehabilitation and such with barely a wimper.
