I'm always amused when Donovan cannot enter the USA for a Woodstock reunion because of one off possession of cannabis (for personal use) in the 60s, but the likes of Sir Paul McCartney who was prosecuted for growing cannabis is allowed to visit regularly.

One of my neighbours was refused entry due to a ten year old traffic offence. Surely, in his case, all they need to do is not allow him to drive within the USA.

Since they introduced scanning and fingerprinting for all visitors, my family have boycotted holidays in the USA. If they want our money they must show us some respect.

Emma Bee,I have a friend whose credit cards were stolen in the US about 6 years ago and used to buy guns. He reported the theft but got bailed up leaving the USA and spent 2 days in jail before being released but has never been able to get a visa since.

They'll soon be taking DNA and fingerprints from kids at birth.

the majority of comments in tabloids have been inferring that Townshend's celebrity status somehow helped him to escape further punishment which is the most ironic aspect of the whole case.

From memory-the treatment meeted out to him via the police using the media was atrocious..which is why I say if he could have been charged -he would have been. They would have bent over backwards to claim a famous scalp.

Besides-this "caution'business is a dodgy as the US "plea bargain" deals which secure convictions no matter what the truth is.

And yes-the great investigative retired journalist Duncan Campbell has already shown that the whole Ore case stinks from start to finish.

Problem is he actively downloaded CP from the net,and paid for it with his Credit card.
Hard to argue his guilt,the only thing that can be argued is did he have a legit reason to do it.

That said,of course the police used underhand tricks during the investigation.

As JK says OPERATION ORE stinks. Not only that but the main offenders included CABINET MEMBERS !!! yet BLAIR covered the whole thing up - by doing this he also handed a big problem to the Police in following up the leads. Therefore, many people arrested had nothing to do with downloading child porn ( the credit card records were mainly for ordinary porn ) but the Child porn offenders were mainly in Government and senior positions of the Police and Judiciary.........

One day the lid will be blown off all of this.

Anyone who goes to the USA on holiday now and then complains about the 3 hours check in - the strip searches - the body oriface searches - the detailed visa application wanting to know everything about you and so on.......deserves what they get.

The USA is a great place - but no place is worth going through all of that.

I think it's true that no images were found to have been downloaded by him, and no such images were found during a search of his property. He was cautioned because he accessed a website which offered child porn. I'm not sure whether "using his credit card" means he paid for membership or if it just means he used it for age verification.

Not much of a case against him really.

If, as it's claimed, it 'encourages the trade' then aren't all those who viewed the beheadings of kidnapped hostages in Iraq (which includes friends of mine who bizarley sent me links as if I'd be interested ) plus the BBC NBC and so on-guilty of encouraging these deaths. After all this footage was produced as propaganda.

My beef is beyond all this though...no sane person wants to see children abused or hurt in any way but the best way to prevent that is to aid the lives of the poor in countries where all this stuff is produced-East Europe etc. And that's just too hard for the rich West which prefers to blow up Iraq when the cost of one year of that war has been estimated by World Vision would solve hunger in Africa for all time.

There is the rather worrying aspect of what just is "child porn"..everything is swept into one catergory which could be a 5 year old or a 16 year old and as the ACLU says -you can go to jail in America for life for viewing pics of naked 16 years engaged in sex but murder a 16 year old and you will probably be out in 10 years.

And inadvertantly click on a link on the net...and you too could suddenly find yourself on a child porn site.

Plus the great condundrum for which I've never yet got an answer...where does that leave all the police officers,lawyers, court officials and judges who may look at kiddie porn as evidence ? OK they are covered by "privilge" but are basically committing the same crime unlike any other case. Think about it !

As I recall the Pete Townshend case, it was reported that he had been sexually abused as a little boy and that he wanted to see photos of such things happening to little boys in an effort to come to terms with what had once happened to him. This was not a good idea, as every case is different and every child's reaction is different, so in theory, this would only work if he could see photos (or preferably movie film) of the abuse happening to him. Since that was not possible, he was onto a loser from the start with that idea and should really have gone to see a male counsellor or psychotherapist specializing in such things and talked things over with him.

I supect that most child porn pics are produced privately and shared by email between abusers or interested parties. Yes, there do seem to be double standards regarding the viewing of child porn where the police and public are concerned, that seem to say that for the public, it is morally wrong and illegal to view such images, but for the police, it is morally right and legal to view them for prosecution reasons. It all seems very odd.

That wasn't Pete Townshend, DR2, it was Chris Langham. A great talent whose light we will not see again, I'm afraid, for some time yet. I have many thoughts on this subject {which isn't surprising for those here who know anything of my history}... just little time among the Festive period in which to commit them to words. My apologies for the error, Locked Out. Yes, it was Chris Langham. Something to do with a man who took him on a camping trip in Canada when he was eight years old in 1957. However, I looked up the Pete Townshend case on the Internet and he said he thought he may have been sexually abused as a child. Although obviously, if it did happen and he couldn't remember whether he had been or not, it must have been very early on in his childhood...say when he was a toddler...for him to be so unsure about it.

I still dont quite understand how it is not an offence for adults to look at porn - surely that is rape ? because the person is not consenting ?

This whole set of rubbish about images is a creation of the state to enforce control on the population.

I dont like porn full stop. It is degrading.

But to put people in prison for looking at porn ( whether it be child porn - animal porn or just regular porn ) seems to be wrong. If porn is illegal then why not fine those who view it ? it makes sense to do this and make money out of it for the state ( us )

I worked with Pete Townshend many years ago at his record co...he did say he was abused by an uncle and it was his input into Tommy album the "Uncle Ernie fiddle about" bit (but his uncle wasn't named Ernie)..long long long before p**o hysteria.

I can tell you I was physically abused by an uncle (not sexually) and it prayed on my mind for decades.
