I meant to tune in to see the change over, as I haven't missed one (until now). Totally forgot. I couldn't bring myself to watch either of these episodes as I could tell from the trailers that RTD was going to go completely overboard. Too much emphasis on the Doctor dying when, in fact(ion), he was just going to regenerate. The Doctor will only die at the end of his 13th regeneration. To a Timelord a regeneration is just like passing from stage of life to another. He remains the same person with the same memories and has no need to say any goodbyes.
Did he really say goodbye to "all" of his ex companions? Jo Grant, Jamie, Leela, Victoria, etc?
I'm thinking that this two parter was more about RTD than the Doctor. The producer became larger than the show, which definitely meant it was time to go. I know I didn't see these episodes, but I also base that assessment on other RTD episodes .. and if even JK thought he'd gone over the top then he must have.
I'll probably find the regeneration scene on Youtube. I look forward to following Matt Smith as the Doctor, with hopefully much better writing and production.
