for once I'm pleased voting is not compulsorary in the UK as it is in Oz (which produces very stable government with preferential voting). Who to vote for in the UK ?

Dr Who writer: ‘BBC has five or six years left’

Dr Who writer Russell T Davies said the Conservatives will destroy the BBC if they get elected. Conservative shadow culture secretary Jeremy Hunt revealed last month that his party was ready to freeze or cut the BBC licence fee. Davies told the Daily Mirror: “They want the votes but once they get in they are going to [...]

That will be Murdoch's price for supporting the Conservatives.

Interestingly-he tried to do the same with the Oz equivelent-the government funded station ABC which garners around 35% of viewers (with no licence fee)by demanding they take commerical advertising.

But TV station owner Kerry Packer nipped that in the bud for the obvious reason he would loose a fortune in advertsing revenue.

Be warned..James Murdoch is a chip of the old block.

I actually believe the BBC should be sold off.

It is not impartial and acts as a commercial company in many areas - upsetting most people I might add who run businesses ( not just Murdoch )

I dont see why the BBC could not sell off many of its channels and retain a small news group and the orginal 4 radio stations for an annual license fee of say £20.

At the moment most of what is being produced by the BBC Is rubbish - Strictly Come Dancing is quite simply appalling.

Drama is one area where the BBC Is excellent. That could be sold off and make a profit because of its expertise.

The radio stations are frankly awful - Radio 2 is decent enough and 3 and 4 but Radio 1 and all the digital stations have no identity and seem like vanity projects.

BBC 3 and 4 should be good - but seem to have lost their way.

The BBC Is too big - it needs to be scaled down dramatically.

If the TORIES promise to do this - then they will be doing us all a big favour. Cutting down the license fee will also help many poor people who find £10+ a month for what used to be almost free unnacceptable when most TV events take place on SKY or other pay TV stations.
