Federer at his best is unplayable but he could have an off day and lose his cool like he did in the US final last year when he was in complete control.
I like Andy Murray more than Tiger Tim, mainly because he has changed the image of Tennis as been a sport for posh, southern softies to brave working class people. That said though, I think Federer is a great sportsman and representes everything that is good about sport (i.e. humility, sportsmanship, courage, and determination), so I don't mind if he wins.
Murray is SOOO unattractive; never shaves properly, always scowling, ginger, no charisma but... he plays great tennis.
I suspect that's where Tim lost out; pink and white, sweet, nice smile, lovely teeth...
Of course we love Federer - a real gent (so is Nadal). I have this soft spot for East European players - loved Lendl; Goran was my favourite. Martina - fantastic. But we will be cheering on Andy from 8am without one second's pause.
Not all gingers are unattractive but it doesn't help; and yes, he's not really ginger, just pale and spotty and flacid and plain. But great at tennis (his brother has similar physical characteristics yet is quite dishy).
I'm quite interested in seeing the closing ceremony, despite the speeches, but the BBC love to show people chatting in the studio rather than continue live coverage.
What are they saying in Australia that's making Andy Murray smile so much on the screen behind the studio talkers? Grrr.
Well deserved win by Federer, he made it look so easy, never doing any of this posturing and scowling that Murray does all the time. Murray had to struggle for every point, it was definitely Man against boy today. Also his wife looks really nice and not the typical blonde bimbo that most top sports stars seem to choose.
It wouldn't surprise me if Murray never wins a grand slam, he's 23 this year, which is young, but not many tennis players win their first grand slam over this age. Federer is going to be around for a few more years yet, because of his game he doesn't exert as much energy as others. Remember that Agassi was world number 1 at 34. I think there has to be a succession of lucky breaks for Murray to win a grand slam, just like when Ivanisovic won wimbledon in 2001.
Loved Andy's remark that "I can cry like Roger; it's a pity I can't play like him" - the perfect comment and gives me hope for the future. He is clearly maturing. Let's hope he learns to shave.
Andy Murray was in a different age group and in a classroom away from the shooting, so wasn't directly involved. It might still have been a traumatic moment though, if he knew what was going on, although he does say that he didn't understand what was happening at the time.
