John Terry should lose captaincy 14 Years, 3 Months ago
I feel that John Terry should lose the captaincy of England because he has lost all respect after the recent news of his extra-marital affair and his attempts to hide the details. What makes him so special that his private life shouldn't be reported on like everyone else in the public eye. I know that what you do in your spare time doesn't affect the way you play football, but we are talking about been captain now, which is a position of responsiblity and the position that people should look up to.

Everyone time he goes on the pitch, like yesterday he will be met with boos, as the fans want to see some kind of retribution. Capello stated that discipline was paramount in the England squad and thus now he should practice what he preaches and remove the captaincy from Terry and give it to someone more responsible, although I can't think of anyone off-hand.

Personally he should only loose the captaincy if he looses the respect of the players.
While the press may report,we do not want to go down the 'trial by media' avenue.
He did make it worse by trying to gag the press, and no doubt he'll pay a price for that. But the team has done well recently, and we do not needf journalists making it worse.

IA you say we don't need trial by media but I believe they are only reflecting popular opinion in this case.

Good post Innocent accused. Totally agree. He is a top player. can you imagine if we start applying these moralistic arguments to all public figures ? The House of Commons would be empty and most premier league teams would be playing 11 year olds.

When did morality ever mean much?

Yes it was a low life thing to do,and he'll pay a heavy penalty. But my point is that given how lowly the media are in general we should not let the blind lead the blind,or more specifically the corrupt judge the corrupt.

I've spoke to a number of people about this,& while nobody is defending the actions most think it's a private matter, for the team setup to sort out.We wouldn't want to miss out on a good world cup run because of media hysteria.

Well that's ok,he's about the only person besides my former near neighbour Peter Sutcliffe who's sunk low enough in his dodgy life to understand the situation lol:)

Good luck to the England squad. You're captain who earns £170k a week is a serial adulterer. It doesn't matter that he is in an ambassadorial role for football. Lets send out a message to all Mr Terry's young fans that its ok to be naughty when it suits and try and gag the press when he's been caught in the act. Is it any wonder why our society is broken?

People have always been naughty Angel, just in the past they were better at hiding it.
Many of the supposed 'role models' of the past lived double lives.Certainly many of the press do that, then preach down at us.
More people will support a sucessful England team with Terry as captain than will support his removal if it effects results.
He'll loose most of his sponsorship anyhow, that was most probably what the origional gag order was about.

Yes he's a sh!t,have no doubt, but in real life you could never even contemplate sacking somebody for what he did,and it'd be a gross injustice if we did let the media dictate football policy.
I somehow think Capello is lock in arguments with the FA about this very thing now,and the outcome will affect how well we do in the world cup.If the players want him out he'll go anyway, and it's afterall they who matter most in this, not the man in the street.

I agree with most football pundits that John Terry should at least offer his resignation from the England Captaincy. That would be the right thing to do, and then the ball is in the court of the FA.
