Capello Drops Terry 14 Years, 2 Months ago
..according to Sky.

Lampard favourite for captaincy.

That's why the media love Capello...he bends.

Very few - be they politicians or judges or football managers - dare fight the bullies.

I was nearly right. Replaced by 'squeaky clean' Ferdinand.

Capello had to take the captaincy away from John Terry. There are now two camps within the England team; those who sympathise with Wayne Bridge and those who side with John Terry. It may not be possible for both to remain in the squad, so Terry's action has created disharmony and possibly diminished the strength of England's defence just ahead of a World Cup. It's not just about one man having a bit of an extra marital romp. The England captaincy comes with responsibilities both on and off the field. John Terry failed to live up to those responsibilities and so could not continue. I would have made the same decision as Capello.

Well said jc, I couldn't agree more. Terry's misdemeanour has split the dressing up and lost the respect of his timesheets, therefore he shouldn't be in a position of responsibilty. Do we really want an England team where the captain gets booed everytime he touches the ball. It's not just the extra-marital affair, but a string of other offences such as hiring out his box at wembley for a great profit, showing desrespect after 9/11 and violent offences when he was younger.

My choice would be Stevie G as he's a great ambassador for the game and is a gent on and off the pitch.

I guess the good news in this story is that if/when England do rubbish at this coming World Cup they've already got an excuse for poor performance.
