Quite right too; the UK is coming to an end due to bad government.

Soon we will be seeing TUMBLEWEED blowing down the streets of our Cities.

Nearly all jobs have gone under NEW LABOUR. The "Working Class" are now detained on large estates paid for by "Government borrowings" and enjoying large screen dumbed down TV and copious amounts of cheap booze and drugs in order to keep them from actually realising their lives are now over.

The MIDDLE CLASS have been brainwashed into a PC Fantasy of a multicultural UK where they are now the servants of the waves of poor coming into the Country - and they have seen their spending power reduced by constant STEALTH taxes to that of the Working Classes so that working does not now guarantee any "REAL" income - only survival.

The RICH have got richer under NEW LABOUR and now live the life of luxury exploiting the MIDDLE CLASS and ignoring the WORKING CLASS.

Shopping centres are empty as the consumer boom ends. Commercial property is turned over to housing for the millions of immigrant poor.

The National debt increases by the day as more people become economically inactive.

Yes - one day the whole system will come crashing down - but whilst TESCO have 2 cases of lager for £16 and you can get drugs on every street corner via our BRAVE LADS in AFGANISTAN who are keeping open the supply lines - why should anyone worry.

Yes JK - the economy is moving OUT of the UK.

It must be a matter of time before they "CULL" The population by putting something in the water.......

BR, I was contemplating if it is really worth working at all - it seems the jobless have a better life and are better off than many who work full time.

I know it is seen to be good if you 'work hard', but it has got me nowhere yet...

I think you should try living on Incapacity Benefit as I have been for a year and a half now. I can barely afford to eat and pay my bills.

David - if you are on Incapacity benefit you should be able to claim :

1. Income support ( if you dont get enough )

2. Housing Benefit

3. Council Tax

4. Exemption for prescription charges

5. Your local authority should be able to get you free entry for many things including council facilities

6. You may be eligible for FREE transport - in London that is called a FREEDOM PASS.

All these things added together mean you should not need to be living in poverty. If you have children then you will also get Child Benefits and Tax credits on top.

This is the most generous benefits system in the World. in a recession it may be better not to work than risk capital or time working for nothing.

BR, yes I am not necessarily complaining about the safety net that I have, but that people who are jobless either through unemployment or illness necessarily have it easier than those who work. That was implied.

I did take advice from the Citizens' Advice Bureau when I had to stop work. I do get Income Support, at £2 per week!

I am not entitled to free transport. My disability entitles me to a certain amount of money to cover additional costs but I do have to pay all my own transport costs.

It ain't easy, I tell you.

Good to hear you are trying to get the benefits to which you are entitled.

For people who have worked and "live" life the benefit system is not enough to support them.

The problem with those who NEVER work is that they have benefits and often have "undeclared" incomes doing odd jobs here and there - this gives them a pretty decent income and allows them to have foreign holidays and designer clothes etc. Because they dont go out to big ticket events and drink in local clubs where booze is cheap and cigerettes come in through Dover and Calais at cheap rates - they can be better off than people who work themselves into the ground.

For instance someone who has Housing Benefit at £1500 a month - Council Tax at £1500 a year - Basic Benefit £60 - Child Support x 3 £40 - Income support at £1000 a year - free transort card at £500 a year - adding all that up comes to around £17,500 for HB plus £5,000 in other benefits.

This makes up an AFTER TAX income of around £22,500 ( if you work this would require an income of around £35,000 once tax and NI and travel costs and extra food costs are factored in )

Therefore, benefits can bring in for a family MORE money than if ONE person in that family was working. If one DOES work in a couple then they lose most of the benefits. Therefore, there is no incentive AT ALL to work unless the salary is over £35,000.....which would be unlikely in all but professional jobs.

So when Teachers and others earn around £35K they have the same income as a family on benefits - yet have to go out and work hard everyday for it.

Is that fair ? I am not sure - but I feel it should change. I think that anyone who is unemployed should be give "State Work" - which would instantly mean that what is being spent on Social Security can be spent on SERVICES instead. This would benefit EVERYONE.

That would be what I would do - A NEW BENEFICIAL STATE - where everyone had a safety net but if they could not find a job after 3 months then they would be made to work for their benefits getting a "State job". If they did not work then they would lose their benefits.

This surely is fairer ?

Obviously for those who are disabled beyond working or have mental illnesses this would take careful planning - but those people should not be written off from society. We should do our best as a society to get these people back to doing something they want to do.

spot on. The Third World and East Europe have begun the long march to dominate the world.

I'm learning Mandarin for the inevitable-when Oz becomes a Chinese ally.

One day children will be taught that the downfall of Britain was highlighted by Cadbury's moving to Poland.

The situation is very worrying and Gordon Brown is doing nothing to help the situation, in fact he is exasperating the situation. This country is now run by cheap foreign labour helping the middle and upper class bosses to greater riches whilst the working classes are left isolated.

An indian colleague said to me that people shouldn't complain about immigrants because we don't have the skills over here. That is rubbish our universities are overflowing with skilled people and there are 2.5 million people unemployed who could be trained. The fact is that new labour and no doubt the tories as well are just interested in short term benefit to middle class bosses and keeping the working classes quiet.

Companies that outsource work abroad should be taxed heavily to discourage this activity. If this doesn't happen then it will be the end of this country, unemployment will reach massive proportions. If work isn't been sent over to Poland, then the poles and others are coming over to take the work.

For a start Job Seekers Allowance is only around £70 per week, not 35k a week. and most teachers get well below 35k. Most british people aren't on benefits because they don't want to work, it is because migrant workers have depressed the wages below the level that people in this country can live on. Most of these migrants are sharing houses between many several people and many of them claim child benefit for children that they have in Eastern Europe. This is why the country is in such a mess.

That must be a very long march then Veritas.

Many Central and Eastern European economies are teetering on the brink of complete failure as a result of the current recession. They are among its worst casualties.
