Re:Silent Witness in South Africa 14 Years, 2 Months ago
These road trips (Morse & Lewis in Australia wasn't bad, and Tony Hill in Texas (?) was quite good) are clearly made to attract the international audience, to increase the export chances of TV-series.
What the producers forget: The global success of british TV is due to the britishness (if there is such a thing) of the product.
The worst example (I can think of at the moment) of pandering to the assumed tastes of an international audience was "The New Avengers": That series had no identity at all.

I watched it having never watched the series before and also thought it was awful.I can only guess that Silent Witness is very popular in South Africa(on BBC Prime i believe)and that it that it was meant as a moral tale for locals and visitors coming to the country for the World Cup. It was a grubby drama that left a nasty taste in the mouth.
