I stood in a media pen (where we belong) in the Sydney Hilton a few years ago when Mandela arrived for a dinner. Billionaires, politicians of all stripes-an extraordinary mix of people were there to meet him (the only person who declined was the vile then PM John Howard)

One of the most extraordiany people I have seen. An aura like a regal king mixed with amazing humbleness. And so friendly.
