TOPIC: Becks faces Man U

Becks faces Man U 14 Years, 3 Months ago
Champions leage game tonight...Ac Milan vs Man Utd.

I adore David Beckham...not only do I think he's a wonderful hard working footballer and role model...he's done more for this country than the Royals.

He deserves a knighthood and part of me is hoping he scores against his old side tonight.

Capello should make him captain. Why all the fuss over John Terry? There's only one Becks. Come on caps...do the right thing!

It takes more than hard work and passion to be a good footballer. Most fans in the stand would show as much passion and work just as hard. Ryan Giggs is the main force for Man Utd. When Giggs missed five matches due to injury they struggled to win. When Beckham missed a few matches due to injury it made no difference. When asked what Beckham has done for England people still harp on about "That goal against Greece". I think they mean the free kick which was his fourth attempt from the same spot, having missed his first three, and it quite a long time ago. He did very little before that and has done very little since, other than soak up the media adoration. So many England caps with so few achievements. All style and no substance. I'd drop him for a younger fitter player with more ability - although, actually, I wouldn't have picked him in the first place.

That said, I expect AC Milan to beat Man Utd.

Oh come on. Completely disagree. He has handled his career and his life far better than Best did for example. His influence on the pitch is something you cannot replace. And as tonight has thus far showed ...he still has the talent and the skill to score goals.

Ac Milan 1 Man Utd 0.

I rest my case.

I'm with FC not JC on this - a big Becks fan; the way he bends those penalties!

Thanks JK. The man is a legend. Tonight he has given his all (i've been listening to commentary) I for one could never have coped with the publicity this man has received over the last 14 years...I'd have done myself in or become a hopeless drunk or both. One can only imagine the intensity of being a global phenomenon...look at Jacko.

Becks remains an upstanding gent.

I salute him. He's quite incredible.

Of course you disagree. Not sure about your case resting though. He didn't score tonight and his team didn't win.

I don't think he's that much of a gent, I seem to remember he cheated on his wife a few years ago, with a certain Rebecca Loos. Also he's shown absolutely no loyalty to L.A Galaxy after they've paid him millions of pounds, he swans off to Milan when he sniffs the chance of an England recall. Beckham just cares for Beckham ltd.

All you gay guys will probably disagree, because he's good looking, but you should see beyond that.

My view is that once Shearer left international football they needed an icon. David Beckham had a marketable image and he was chosen to be the front for English football. There were embarrassing moments such as when he was sent off for England, when he admitted to fouling a player intentionally while England captain so that he could serve a ban while injured. He claimed it was a clever move but was forced into an apology by public and media reaction. The there was the time he sent his penalty sky high into orbit and tried to blame the pitch for it despite all those who took a penalty from the same spot after him managed to hit the target. I do quite like him as a person but I think he is intentionally over rated as a player. In Blair's Britain where image meant more than substance he fitted very well, but his days at the top are over. To send him to the world cup would be another embarrassment.

Sorry David. Just retire gracefully.
