TOPIC: Winner's dining disaster
#55164
Winner's dining disaster 14 Years, 2 Months ago
Only 2.6 million viewers at 9pm on a Friday night? A total disaster. Historic. And worse is to come; next Friday he's up against the weekly finale of 5 Days.

'Historic' indeed. I hope ITV treat the old booby like he does his restaurateurs: have a nice smiley picture taken together, then slag him off behind his back.

This week is even worse. If anyone deserved the Charles Haughey treatment (after complaining about his undercooked steak, the chef called his staff round in a circle, lowered his trousers and pants, rubbed said steak on his hairy bits, then fried it lightly and sent it back to Haughey, who smiled and said, 'Dat's much better!') it's Michael Winner. 'Super historically' ghastly programme.

It is a truly dreadful programme but the terrible thing is - it doesn't take itself seriously. The conventional wisdom is that's nice - not to take yourself seriously - but in truth every second must be 100% entertaining. With Entertainment USA I tried never to waste one single second. Michael wastes 60 minutes. Fortunately his ratings cannot get any lower so he should see a slight rise at least.

The other really quite frightening thing is - I'm absolutely certain he and the ITV executives don't realise how terrible it is. Like green being called red; the colour blind can see no difference.

I expect Winner's laughing all the way to the bank though. He's had his share of turkeys, but at least his money hasn't been lost on this one.
For some reason I did find it strangely watchable. Particularly intersted in seeing the rather nice Rolls Phantom V he owns.

2.1 million for week two? A historic turkey for Michael. Winner isn't in it.
