Jamie's mother deserves sympathy 14 Years, 2 Months ago
Like Sarah Payne however, she should not become a policy maker or spokesperson for justice.

Unless, of course, the only rule is... IS IT A GOOD STORY?

Anyone who wants to be involved in policy making should stand for election and let the people decide. It's no guarantee they'll be any good, but at least they'll have a mandate.

Grieving relatives are more likely to form policy based on bitterness rather than reason. Their desires for revenge must be contained, not let loose on society in general.

Of course she does. The poor woman-who can imagine what is going through her mind and she has every right to want terrible revenge.

But that is also why calmer minds must make our laws.

Can someone remind me ... where exactly was SHE when her son was being taken away ?

Just like that awful Payne woman - if she had been actually looking after her child then the child would still be here today.

Do they seek these "martyr" roles to allay their own guilt perhaps ?

Sarah Payne was staying with her grandparents and was out playing with her brother. I don't think he mother can be blamed for what happened to her, although I do wish she'd go somewhere to grieve quietly instead of trying to get the rest of us to suffer with her.

With a kid as young as Jamie Bulger, someone should have been more alert. You only have to turn your back for a few seconds but as the CCTV shows he was lead away quite casually and so maybe attention was taken for more than a few seconds on that occasion. I think all parents would blame themselves, whether they were directly at fault or not. That doesn't make the abductors less guilty.

In a crowded shopping centre it's always best to hold the hand of an infant. Far too easy to get lost in a crowd. Overall, though, very few children are lost or abducted in the UK.

true..I don't know the full details but for a parent to go through such an horrendous case is horrible. But we annot make laws u\based upon revenge..it serves no useful purpose and probably does the opposite in preventing crime.

I don't actually understand why this woman is being given such a voice in the media.
