Well ITK; I remain optimistic but my hopes now are... 19 Years ago
Argentina; Spain; England; Ghana; Trinidad & Tobego; Tunisia... these are the teams I'd love to see doing well.
In several cases that's wishful thinking but often enthusiasm can triumph over skill... especially in the knock out rounds.

If things are not going well, I think we can expect to see Becks running all over the place anyway.
I do hope Rooney does not over do it, a boring 0-0 draw will suffice.
And whilst on sport, I really do not how many of the England /Sri Lanka cricket matches I can be bothered to still follow. They are all virtually identical games.
that we should rest most our first eleven, especially those on yellow cards. England are already through and we need to keep them fit, etc. for the knock out stage.
It would be nice to top the group but that should not be the priority.
If that is the strategy - play only for any result as we are already through to the next round - we would come 2nd in the group and meet Germany (probably winners of their group) on Sunday !
I can't see Germany losing to this lot, on home ground .... can you?
(If they do follow your strategy its probably that they could also come home on Sunday with one of the WORST scoring records in football history !)
No player should be in a World Cup Squad unless he's capable of playing at that level, so the other 12 players should each be able to deliver the goods. Also, the whole point of this strategy is to avoid the main players missing the 4th game due to a yellow card ban or an injury. A good manager has to plan long term. If we don't think we can beat Germany, we might as well pack up and go home today.
