Well done on health care - a major, major step in the right direction for the USA and a huge battle won against the forces of evil.

Not the best scheme but amazing that he actually got anything through given how timid the Democrats have become.

Love the Republican's cries.."making the rich pay for poor people's health care"...like it's the worst thing ever !

The real victory is that this will embolden Obama and maybe he will actually perform.

As Gore Vidal despaired.."Americans are so odd..they go from the most stupid president ever to the most intelligent !"

Yes well done Obama. It's incredible that in a country where health insurance is essential over 32m were denied it and so could not afford health care. I don't think anyone can suggest that Obama hasn't yet performed. He's set the majority of his promises into motion, but many take time and he was elected to make his changes over four years not overnight. Lots of foundation work was needed. He's certainly eased a lot of tension in the Middle East and set target dates for withdrawal of troops from both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama was elected on a promise of change and now America is finding out what change means.

Fascinating the Republican arguments against - they really make no sense at all unless you are a) an insurance company or b) a very rich person.

And a lot of racist, homophobic and class filth chucked by their supporters.

I think this is one of the most vital and significant events in ages.

I love America and Americans, except for the much-too-pervasive view that in that land of opportunity where anyone can be President, if you're poor, it's simply because you haven't worked hard enough, and therefore aren't deserving of help or sympathy... or healthcare!

I wouldn't remotely suggest that all Americans feel this way, but it's certainly in the Republican mindset, hopefully this will start turning the tide a little...

Well said JK. Obama knows this too. The greatest president since JFK, and I'm afraid for the man.

You know in this great and "Christian" land called America, they don't feed the poor
(tell them go get a job), clothe the naked (arrest them and throw them in jail) or heal
the sick (where is your health insurance?). They get on TV and preach the Gospel and support
the shooting of abortionists, decry the "filthy homosexuals" despite being closet gays, have
affairs with them and of course their many mistresses. They are obsessed with sex and think
it's the only sin and you know what Jesus will say to them ? "Depart from me, I know you not".

Obama is doing all he can to change their ways and they call him the "antichrist". May God
forgive America.

you are right Mickey Metal..America is the most wonderful land of such contrasts especially in it's people. You get the very worst to the very best and there is no overall characteristic.

There is a mantra that one can become anything they want which is pure rubbish..especially in the president business as it would mean there could be 300 million presidents.

As to the belief it's always been a capitalist country..never has been never will be. It's always had great swags of socialism mixed into a hybrid form of capitalism which is constantly tettering on corporatism, especially after the great FDR made it far more fair by spreading that socialism even further..which Reagan began dismantlng and very presidenT has ever since except Obama who has made a dent in a country racing to be the vey first full corporatised land.

You always have to look at a person's backers-in Obama's case Wall Street whose best interest is served in having a well off populace but who go haywire if they are not checked by govt regulation (melt down). The US has also become a media run land where people can be convinced to vote against their own interests.

Obama has only made one very small step but I reckon the forces are lining up against him. I think he now really is in more danger than ever because he may succeed. The languaage being used about him by political opponents-'traitor' and so on is appaling.

(where is BR ?)
