So much emphasis is being placed on the economy in the run up to the general election. It's an important issue but, in my opinion, the continued erosion of civil liberties is a far greater issue. What is money without freedom?

Government still have plans to impose ID cards, to introduce a compulsory DNA database, to have us register full details of travel when we leave these shores (our journey route, intended destination, who we will be meeting, date of return, etc.), to monitor all of our emails and phone calls, to give police more powers to stop and question, and to introduce many other measures to reduce our freedoms.

Even now that an all party commission has criticised government anti terror laws and got this issue briefly into the headlines, it will all be forgotten again long before election day.

I should think any of the political parties is capable of getting the nation out of debt eventually, but which of them will restore and protect our rights and freedoms? Which of them will mend Britain's soul?

Well said Al; and I'm increasingly aware that we need not give a f*** about the economy and the debt - it's all play figures, 800 trillion squid, nothing to do with you or I... we know whoever gets in will sort it out one way or the other; we won't simply all have no food or drink.

Let's stop the false allegations industry.

Must have missed this post before. Yes, good points.
Each party rattles on about what they are going to do about the recession but none, not even the Lib Dems, have even mentioned these more important issues - possibly because the media are not questions about them.

Whether it the economy or MPs expenses, it all seems to be about money.
