Steve Davis 14 Years ago
I haven't been interested in a snooker match for about 15 years, however the match between Steve Davis and current world champion Jon Higgins was absolutely fantastic. Davis at 52 won a very tense match 13 - 12. I've never been on the edge of my seat this match for snooker since the historic Dennis Taylor/ Steve Davis final of 85.

Can Steve go on and win another world title, I don't know but it would be fantastic if he could. He's a good ambassador for sport, often wrongly derided as 'boring' by satirical shows like spiting image. Steve has great wit and charm, much more so than the yobbish Ronnie O'Sullivan.

An absolute legend. Exactly 25 years since the black ball final, and he has always played snooker as it should be played...like a game of chess. Snooker has never been about running around the table potting balls as fast as you can! If he does reach the final it will be one of the greatest sporting comebacks of all time.

As for the boring tag, Davis played up to it brilliantly. He endorsed the Spitting Image skit and he's one sportsman I have a lot of time for.

I had the pleasure of meeting Steve Davis at an exhibition match a few years ago. He talked about the boring tag and said he kept being accused of only ever talking about snooker, but whenever he was interviewed all he was asked about was snooker, "So why were they surprised that I talked about snooker?" he asked.

He wasn't at all aloof, and he came across as a genuinely nice person. I would love to see him win another World Championship, especially as nobody really expects him to.

He is a huge fan of French band Magma. Even brought them over to do a show in London promoted by Steve"Interesting" Davis promotions. See this 2004 interview from The Guardian.
