Good for him - human, honest - I like it when politicians reveal their real faces. We'll never be served by anyone who is !00% fake all the time.
Great story (which is all that matters).

Thank God media editors and reporters never say anything like that privately.

Mandelson was AWFUL when he attempted to defend him, though. He's far too contemptuous of anyone (especially women, interestingly enough) who disagrees with him to be effective in these situations. 'Gordon said something he didn't really believe' - well done for that quote, Pete, we'll hear that repeated a few times now during the next debate. Once again Mandelson's inflated reputation sags a bit more.

Only really honest in private. Showed a much different face in public, so in that sense not really honest.

Human, yes. We probably all do it, but as PM seeking reelection it was a major goof.

John Prescott would probably have said it to her face. Now there's an honest politician. It's the only thing about him that I respect. He calls a spade a spade.

Disaster for Labour. Total disaster. Contempt for ordinary working class voters.

25 years of tory ahead.

I just tweeted about that. Gordon Brown gave a good example of how to win a vote and then lose it again within a few minutes.

He's quite a likeable idiot but he shouldn't be in charge of a country.

That GRIN when he was outside the house!!! Why on earth do they still let him do that? It's quite an achievement for Gordon to have remained that naive and hapless after so many years of media management.

I warm to him. Totally media incompetent - if only he would ignore them completely, I might vote for him.

The media to one side...you cannot have contempt for the public as PM. The man is in the wrong job.

I'm not sure I agree FC; the more I see of the public the more contempt I have for the vast majority. Imagine a referendum on every issue; they would vote with no information, no thought, all bias and, yes, bigotry.

Democracy doesn't work; tabloid headline simplistic slogan government reflects the public more than it leads it.

Brown's comments reveal that political correctness has come so far that any views on immigration are regarded as bigotry.

Indeed JK...but the PM should think differently. Especially when needing public support at a crucial time.I agree with your terminology however.

As I've said here before the whole thing needs tearing down...but that would include the monarchy and the free press. The latter two perhaps even you would fight to retain.

Question - has Max Clifford signed up Gillian Duffy yet? If not, why not? Surely it is the Vulture Law of the Media Jungle.

I did hear Paxo on Newsnight last night say she had got herself a PR Agent, but he didn't say who.

Democracy may not be perfect, but it's still better than any of the alternatives. JK - you've read Animal Farm - in fact I've got your "extra chapter" book. That's exactly how it is!

The interesting thing is this story "backs up" the many instances where he is reported to be tetchy, bullying, short tempered, intollerant etc.

Is this the kind of person who should have his finger on the nuclear button?

I think not ........

Spo on, FC !

I was watching when he was on the Jeremy Vine show ... as soon as he slumped with his head in his hands he knew in that moment that he had blown it !

Did anyone see that clip of him with the Elvis impersonator a few days ago? (My immediate reaction was "the dead singing to the dead" !)

What was the song again .... ?

When no one else can understand me,
When everything I seem to do is wrong

This was amazing, EB

New Lie-Bour have only just decided (in desperation) to let the Brown one actually meet REAL people and the very first person he meets, he manages to insult - LIVE ON TV !

The woman was actually on his side, and a supporter too ! She was quite mild mannered. What would he actually have done if they had been slightly hostile?

Contrary to media reports she hardly mentioned immigration at all.

When Brown apologised and said he had mis-understood her words ... what words could he have been referring to? There was nothing to mis-understand was there ?

I wonder how many Lie-Bour MPs now wish they had joined the many previous campaigns to oust him?

I think the following political comment sums it up perfectly ........

Re:Brown... 14 Years ago
The mistake he made was apologising. Not so much the apology perhaps, but the pathetically humble way in which he did it and the time he has wasted on it. This has given the media etc. ample opportunity to dwell on it.

I seem to be alone in thinking he will win a lot of sympathy and support and the media has again shot itself in the foot here.
