The very best thing that can happen in Britain is that the stranglehold of Labour/Conservative and the 2 party system is broken.

A hung parliament is the very best outcome with Lib Dem caling the shots. This garbage about the country being 'ungovernable' is absolute tosh !

Next week Labour seats are going to go down like ninepins. Cameron needs to be kept in check by another party (not Labour)

No. But does anyone in these days of US style politics actually look at the talents of the MPs in other parties ?.

This has been the problem with Blair's US presidential style where all the focus is on the leader combined with a compliant media that skims the surface and the whole parliamentary process is perverted.

Combine that with the new breed of career politicians who don't really ahve much life experience outside politics and you have what you have now--a bunch of utter fuckwits running the joint.

Actually reading the policies of the Lib Dems which are basically a bunch of motherhood statements-they look OK to me.

I believe we need Cameron to be nobbled by the Lib Dems because if you think he won't be beholden to Rupert Murdoch you are fanatasing. If the Tories have complete control you can kiss the BBC goodbye. Murdoch has manipulated the US & Australian governments media policies to such a degree that he is the evil media baron with total control. Expect more of the same.

The media has taken full control of this election, and they have got people looking at the personalities rather than party policies. Oooh look, that Nick Clegg is really fresh and dishy, and so honest and sincere! Let's vote for him.

The media are steering people to vote for a hung parliament because this will be a big story and will provide many more headlines about the wheeling and dealing and compromises and eventual second election. Journalists are almost frothing at the mouth with excitement.

Good point Pru but none of us actually know the talents of the lesser profile MPs and I reckon they can be no worse than the current lot. There are some Tory and Labour MPs I quite like - Ken Clarke and Hague, Alan Johnson... I think a hung Parliament will be the best possible outcome. And Emma - the media is 85% Tory - Murdoch is appalled by the prospect of LibDem votes.

The one thing I don't see in the UK election is that both winning candidates in Oz & the US stod up to the News Corp machine-risky but it paid off. But the situations in both countries are unique and I think politician in the UK are still the hands of the media.

Like the 'bigot' tale which is the non-story of the year but the media is actually pronouncing that it could sway the election. If the voting public take that seriously then heaven help us.

If you look at the Lib Dems the policies they say virtually nothing except they want good police,no crime, a good health care and so on...well who doesn't ?

Nu Labout hasn't earnt the right to be re-elected-the Tories haven't earnt the right to be elected on what they have put forward so I think the electorate would be doing themselves a big favour by frightening the life out of both.

I made my own mind up long before the election was called and must admit I haven't really followed any of the media coverage. It's quite possible that if some of them are launching an open campaign against one political party then that could be yet another bit of drama they create to boost the story. The only thing I know for certain is that I've seen 13 years of Labour and so they have had their chance and made a giant pigs ear of it.

I'm not much impressed with David Cameron but I prefer the overall Tory policies to those of the other parties. The best way the LibDems could increase their chances of winning would be if they focused on restoring and protecting civil liberties, but all parties are avoiding this major issue.

I couldn't agree more, JK - the only three I feel I could stand to spend any time with.

Alan Johnson, the man who wants to force ID Cards, the DNA database and biometric passports on us, not to mention all the other things that make this a Surveillance State. Not a man I could trust or admire.
