Dinner last night with Simon Napier Bell 14 Years ago
and other old friends - Simon I first knew as Manager of John's Children, one of whom was Marc Bolan. Then he co-wrote You Don't Have To Say You Love Me and managed Japan and Wham amongst others.
We last met at Eurovision when he managed Russia's entry Alsou (produced by my friend Steve Levine).
He wrote the huge selling Black Vinyl, White Powder. In which I get many very flattering mentions.
We've spoken more recently - he's been very supportive - but he now lives in Thailand.

Lovely to catch up on decades of gossip.

Wow thats great. Japan used to be my favourite group when I was growing up. Their look was amazing and they sounded so different to everyone else. I remember reading a story about that Simon was about to go into the office and sack Japan after the failure to produce a hit. However he thought they were so nice he couldn't bear to sack them.

Must be so interesting to meet someone like that and chat. Loads of stories I would expect.
