bbc2's 80's season 13 Years, 12 Months ago
I find it hard to believe why people are so disparaging about the 80's, in particular the music.

On the Grumpy 80's programme last night Mark Radcliffe described the music as "crap".

The 80's was a golden age of pop, with British artists selling shedloads on both sides of the atlantic.

I would like to know how many pop songs of the 90's and 00's can compare to songs like
"Don't you want me", "Come on Eileen", "True", "Take On Me", "Tainted Love" and many many more.

Also people also go on about the mullet haircut. This was only in fashion for a few months in 1985 and was mainly an American thing. All we get now is people wearing their jeans halfway down their arse.

Maybe this should be on the tipsheet or maybe I shouldn't have bothered at all, still its a change from politics.

I agree. I think some over-earnest souls were rattled by the sheer messiness of the variety on show, but, looking back, it was fun. The music journalism was great, too - maybe the last decade when it was really worth reading by non-industry people.
