This would save a BILLION a year and stop all these silly 6 week sentences which just create work for the legal system.

Prisons should not hold anyone for less than a year. A short sentence just destroys a person's life - make them more likely to commit crime in future.

Why should we as taxpayers pay for such things.

Under labour Prison Population went up from 45,000 to nearly 90,000 now.

That is ridiculous.

We need to SAVE MONEY - cutting back on short expensive sentences is the way to save more money.

Rather that than cuts to the NHS or EDUCATION.
